5 Ways I Save Money on Beauty Products [And the Products I Use]

If you follow me here or on social, there’s a solid chance you like saving money. After all, that’s a lot of what I share. But I have to say, I’m actually not cheapskate, lol. I truly just appreciate overall value. So sometimes I save, and sometimes I splurge. This is especially true when it comes to my makeup and skincare. Want to learn more? I’ve got you! Here’s how I save money on beauty products…

How I Save Money on Beauty Products

Save Money on Beauty Products

1. I use black eyeshadow as my eyeliner.

Seriously! I initially started doing this in high school because I loved how much softer it looked. When I realized how much money it saved me, I never turned back. Literally one shadow costs me $17, and that’s because I buy a higher quality brand [this one – it’s more pigmented, so it doesn’t look opaque]. But that shadow lasts me YEARS. Over two, easily. Even drugstore eyeliners costs $7+, and they constantly have to be replaced. Just trust me on this, eyeshadow as liner is where it’s at.

2. I buy drugstore mascara.

Okay, maybe I hated a bit on the drugstore eyeliner, but I’ve actually been using this drugstore mascara as of late. And I have no shame in my game! Honestly, I used $30+ mascara for YEARS. I got sick of replacing them every other month, not because they would ran out, but because they would dry out. So a few months ago I decided to poll my Instagram audience and see what drugstore options they liked. After trying a few, I settled on this one by L’Oreal. It applies smoothly, gives me volume and length, and it doesn’t even dry out as fast as some of the expensive brands I’ve tried. So for now at least, I’m sticking to it!

3. I use my own Tula discount code.

Why? Because it saves me 20% every time I do! And the best news is – you can use it, too! I think a lot of you know how much I love this brand. But if you’ve missed my rants or blog posts about it, you can read my Tula skincare review here. Anyways, the code is MEACH20 and it gets your 20% off of most products. There are some limitations… like if you do the auto ship option it won’t work. Figure out what the better discount is and do what’s best for you!

4. I invest in the basics.

Like neutral blushes, bronzers, eyeshadows and lipsticks that I’ll be able to wear from year to year, season after season. I’ve found that higher quality products actually last far longer than the cheap stuff [obviously with the exception of mascara]. As many times they’re more pigmented, you naturally use less of the product per application. And since they typically wear longer, you don’t find yourself reapplying multiple times a day. Again, that’s just my experience. So I while I do “splurge” on some items upfront, I do feel like I save in the long run. [I listed a bunch of my favorite basics below, FYI.]

5. I go cheap on trendy.

This is especially true when it comes to lipsticks. If there’s a really “of the moment” color, I try to find a similar hue by NYX Cosmetics. Their Liquid Suede lip colors are pretty great! And they always seem to come out with the trendier colors faster than other budget brands.
