As many of you know, my friend Suzanne, owner of Urbane Society Salon, recently beautified my hair with Great Lengths hair extensions. As I’ve been documenting the process on my Instagram, I’ve received a TON of questions about the process, expense, maintenance, etc. So today I figured I’d do a little Great Lengths hair extension review in the form of an FAQ! If there’s anything I missed, please comment below and I’ll get you a response ASAP!
Great Lengths Hair Extensions Review
Who did your hair extensions?
As mentioned above my friend, Suzanne, did them for me! She owns the cutest little salon in Tremont, Ohio called Urbane Society. If you’re in the Cleveland area, I highly recommend you check it out. I’m not just saying this because she’s my friend, but Suzanne is seriously SO sweet and SUPER talented. But beyond that, the salon offers a membership model so you can upkeep your hair without additional expenses. It’s seriously such a great idea!!
Why did you decide to get hair extensions?
While I have a lot of hair, it’s actually kind of thin, so I just wanted some extra fullness/volume. I also wanted to add some dimension without having to bleach my hair. I knew that I could achieve all of the above with extensions, so that’s why I went for them!
Why did you choose Great Lengths hair extensions over all the other brands?
Quick backstory: My first “big girl” job after collage was a marketing director role at a local salon and spa chain [that’s where I met Suzanne]. There they offered Great Lengths hair extensions, and since I had to market them I had to learn a lot about them. I even got to try them!
Truly, the quality is unprecedented. They blend well, wash well and style BEAUTIFULLY. The way that they hold curl is insane!! I can go days without “doing” my hair and I still get compliments on it. I just love how fuss-free they are.
In addition to all of that, they have a great training program. What a lot of people don’t realize is that the way the extensions are applied matters a TON! If they get put in incorrectly, they could potentially damage your hair. So I appreciate how thorough the Great Lengths training is.
What kind of Great Lengths hair extensions did you get?
There are two types of Great Lengths hair extensions: keratin bonded and tape ins. While the same high-quality, 100% human hair is used for both, they’re applied differently.
- The application process is quicker.
- The application is more temporary, and I wasn’t sure how long I was going to want to keep them in.
- I have some weird allergies, and the keratin bonds slightly irritate me. Although I love them and would totally get them again despite the irritation, lol.
Do you prefer the GL Tapes to the Keratin Bonds?
Honestly, I love them both! The keratin application is lower maintenance and can last longer, but for what I wanted right now the tape ins were just the better option. Plus, since I had already experienced the keratins I wanted to try something new!
How much do hair extensions cost?
This is hands down the most commonly asked question, but that’s really hard to say. It 100% depends on what you want to achieve. Are you looking for fullness? Volume? Length? All of the above? Since you pay for the hair by the bundle, the cost is dependent upon the look you want to achieve. The type of extension you get plays a role, too.
If you want to get an estimate, you’ll need to schedule a consultation. If you’re in the CLE area and want to do a consult with Suzanne, you can click here to book it .
Do hair extensions damage your real hair?
No, I’ve never experienced any noticeable damage to my hair after using Great Lengths hair extensions. That said, I always follow the care instructions, AND I get them put in by a trusted professional. Those things matter!!
Are hair extensions high maintenance?
They’re actually quite the opposite. They make my life so much easier because I spend less time styling my hair. I can go an extra day without washing it, and the curl holds for days on end. I usually style my hair right after a wash, then go 2-3 days with maybe one touch up. It’s crazy!
The tape ins do require a little more maintenance because you have to get them moved up every 4-6 weeks. But I get my hair cut that frequently anyways, so I just do it all in the same day.
How long do Great Length hair extensions last?
The GL Tapes hair can last through 3 applications, and each application lasts 4-6 weeks. So you get a good 3 months of wear before you need to buy new hair!! With the keratin bonded extensions, one application can last 3-5 months.
Is there anything you dislike about having hair extensions?
Because they’re attached at your root, it’s hard to put your hair into a high ponytail or bun without the extensions being seen. And even then, you’re not supposed to do it. It’s not a big deal, but it’s something you have to be mindful of. I’m used to just throwing my hair on top of my head, but with these I have to make sure the placement stays at the middle of my head, if not lower.
Other than that, I honestly love having Great Lengths extensions. I like how voluptuous my hair looks at all times, and I love that I only have to style it a few times per week. I feel like they actually make my natural hair healthier because I’m not putting as much heat on it! It’s also nice to not have to deal with clip ins to achieve my desired look!
Well, I think that’s everything. Again, if there’s a question you have that I didn’t answer here (or didn’t answer clearly), please drop me a note in the comments. I’ll get you a response ASAP.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading. I hope to see you again soon.
