While you can totally put together a leggings outfit with ankle boots, knee boots, high heels, or even ballet flats, my favorite way to style a pair of black leggings is with sneakers.

One of my favorite leggings outfit formulas includes classic black leggings and a plain long shirt. It’s a comfy, casual look that I’ll never get sick of.

The Free People Arden Extra Long Cotton Top is a wardrobe staple and the perfect long shirt for this look! And it comes in so many colors, some pretty bright colors included if you prefer that sort of thing.

Long Sweater and Leggings

This is one of my go to smart casual outfits for the colder months. You can’t go wrong with a nice long sweater, faux leather leggings, sneakers, and a crossbody bag. Just make sure the pair of shoes you choose are squeaky clean so you don’t look sloppy.

Oversized Shirt and Leggings

An oversized shirt, like a graphic t shirt, looks cute with all types of leggings. Just throw on a pair of white sneakers and a denim jacket and you’re good to go.

While you can wear this leggings outfit with a solid color shoe, I think the right shoes for this look are Golden Goose sneakers or Golden Goose lookalikes (like P448 sneakers or Gola sneakers). They just add an extra edge!

Another simple way to style leggings for cooler weather is to to layer a basic t shirt (even just a plain white shirt) under an oversized sweater. Add plain white tennis shoes and you’re all set!

This is a cool look that’s perfect for everyday wear! And you can create different looks with this outfit formula by swapping out the sweater and leaving everything else the same.
