The conversation surrounding clean beauty products has been heating up for some time now, with celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian using their platforms to lobby for regulation. And while I’ll admit that I wasn’t all that concerned at first, the more I thought about it, the more I began to question my carelessness. If I’m so concerned about what I put into my body (which I am!), why would I be so nonchalant about what I was putting on my skin? It’s the largest organ, afterall!
The answer to that question was actually pretty straightforward. I assumed that safe products wouldn’t be as effective; That they had to be toxic to work. Given that I had never tried to use clean beauty products, this was clearly a limiting belief. So I decided to call my own bluff and order a few products from Beautycounter – one of the more popular brands in the space (FYI: I’m not a consultant).
I ordered 3 products to start: Dew Skin, Countertime, Counter+. Scroll down to learn more and get my honest review of each!

Review of Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer
If you like lightweight, but buildable foundations – you need this in your makeup bag. As you all know, I work from home. So most days, I don’t really need (or want) to wear a full coverage foundation. I love this product because I can throw it on with a little blush, eyeliner, and mascara, and feel “put together” without wasting a bunch of time and energy. But if something comes up and I need to go a little more glam, I can easily add to it.
You can see exactly what’s in this on the Dew Skin product page. But as a quick overview, there’s “black currant, peony flower root extract, and vitamin C to enhance skin brightness and sodium hyaluronate to promote firmer, smoother-looking skin.” It also contains SPF 20 for sun protection! Bottom line – this is my new daily foundation. I’m thoroughly impressed.

Review of Beautycounter Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream
I’m just going to say this – my face has never felt so hydrated in the dead of winter. And firm! It’s all thanks to this thick, luxe anti-aging cream with a “Retinatural Complex”. Meaning, it’s retinol free but has similar anti-aging effects. So if you’re easily irritated by retinol, or cannot use retinol products for some reason, the Countertime Tetrapeptide Cream is something you’d for sure want to look into!
I use this only at night, so for those who are aware of my Tula obsession, yes… I’m still using their products, too! When I decided to try Beautycounter, I filled in gaps in my makeup bag. I didn’t necessarily seek to intentionally “replace” anything. I just wanted to try the products, so I bought what I didn’t have, an anti-aging cream being one of them.
Anyways, I wish I would have taken “before shots”. I definitely see a difference in my skin’s moisture, elasticity, and firmness. My forehead was getting some fine lines for a hot second there, and in just over a month they have noticeably diminished. I promise you – I was getting super self conscious (aging is hard!). But this stuff boosted me (and me skin) right up!
Review of Beautycounter Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel
The Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel was designed to enhance clarity and texture, and that it does! If you’ve been following along for awhile, then you know that I have relatively sensitive skin. And this is one of the only “peel” products that my skin has ever tolerated. Thank goodness, because I’m thrilled with the results! My skin is smoother, softer, and looks more even. Which I think is a big reason why I’m able to pull off the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer most days. I’m getting to the point where I just don’t need that much coverage from a foundation (Unless it’s that time of the month, lol. TMI?)!
FYI because I fear people will miss this – this product is only to be used every other night. If you use it nightly, you could potentially experience a drying effect. Ain’t nobody got time for that. 😉

So all in all, I’m for these clean beauty products. They’re definitely worth the investment. I’ve found them to be effective, and a little goes a long way (I scraped the cream off the cap for a month! lol). Plus, knowing that they are non-toxic does give me comfort.
However, I’m not in full replacement mode quite yet! First, I can’t afford to do that, lol! And second, there are some products I just like. So I’m sure it’ll take some time to find equally effective, cleaner versions. If they’re even out there! I’ll be sure to share, though, as I try new things. And if you have any recommendations for me, or want to add to this review of Beautycounter, feel free to share in the comments.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading. Do your best today, babes!
