Growing up, I always felt Ohio didn’t have much to offer. I actually had plans to move south or west after college. I wanted to live in a city with a warmer climate and more things to do. But as life happened, I’ve continued to find reasons to stay. And as time has passed I’ve developed a sincere appreciation for my home state.
Ohio truly offers a great variety of regions, people, activities, and weather (for better or for worse, lol). There’s a ton to explore here, and I think it’s about time people learned the truth. Ohio rocks, I’m going to prove it!
So with that, here’s my first Ohio travel guide for you – a feature on a hidden gem I recently explored with my Cleveland blogger babes: Fairfield County. You might recognize some of these girls from my post: 7 Denim Jackets to Inspire Your Style. I’ve been lucky to do a lot with them lately!! But anyways, if you live in Ohio or a surrounding state and are looking for a fun place to road trip, this place is perfect for you! Here’s a quick rundown of what you can do.
[PS: I’ll be storing all of my travel guides right here for future reference!]
Ohio Travel Guide: A Weekend in Fairfield County
Just 30 minutes southeast of Columbus, Fairfield County is the exact opposite of Ohio’s capital (and largest) city but equally as endearing. It’s the type of place you visit when you want to escape the chaos of everyday life. A place where you can walk outside and hear nature above all else. I guess the best way to describe it is peaceful. But let me be clear, the FC is far from boring.
During our hosted stay I learned this quickly! In Fairfield County, you can wine and dine and shop ‘til you drop. Or you can enjoy the serenity of the small town simply by renting a cabin. Thankfully, my girls and I were able to do both, allowing me to paint a pretty solid picture of what a weekend there could look like. I’ve broken down my experiences into 3 main categories below: Eat, Drink, and Stay. Keep on scrolling to get the goods.

Eat in Fairfield County Ohio
Our first meal of the trip was at Rockside Winery – homemade pizza for the win!! While they were all delicious, I could not stop picking at the pesto pizza specifically. It was SO GOOD.
We were only in FC for one night, which meant one dinner, but we made it count. 😉 The sweet people at Ale House 1890 spoiled us with some incredible food, drinks, and even a private tour! We learned that their cocktails are all hand-crafted, that they have 18 craft beers on tap, and that their Mac and Cheese is OUT OF THIS WORLD (lol!). Not to mention, they have a beautiful 2-floor patio AND an indoor event space.
This was my favorite meal in Fairfield County! In part because I’m a sucker for a good, homemade brunch. But also because the owners were the sweetest people on earth. I guess I should tell you the name of the restaurant now, huh? It’s actually a newer spot – J.B.’s Downtown Grill!
For my meal, I got the Veggie Omelette with Homemade Biscuits *drool face emjoi*. It was awesome, and I highly recommend, but PSA that you cannot leave J.B.’s without trying their homemade cinnamon rolls and deviled eggs. Literally the best I’ve ever had!!!
Drink in Fairfield County Ohio
Our trip to Fairfiled County included stops at 2 wineries: Rockside Winery (where we got the pizza) and Buckeye Lake Winery. They both had gorgeous, serene surroundings.
Buckeye Lake is – as you might have guessed – on a cute little lake. It has a huge outdoor patio and a variety of wines – Ohio wines included. As far as scenery goes, it was my favorite of the two. Just a peaceful place to sit and chit chat under the sun.
But don’t get me wrong, Rockside Winery is still gorgeous and totally worth the visit! It sits on a vineyard at the top of a hill – so lots of greenery to appreciate. And of the wine varieties, it was my favorite! Why? Because they had WINE SLUSHIES, that’s why!! They were so tasty and refreshing.
Stay in Fairfield County Ohio
This cabin (er, mansion?) sleeps 18 people!! EIGHTEEN! There’s a loft, a main floor featuring a living room, dining room and kitchen, and a walk-out basement with a TV and foosball table. Not to mention a sprawling, wrap-around deck with a hot tub and outdoor dining set!
Truly, Arrow Ridge Lodge is a vacation in and of itself. I could have easily stayed there the entire weekend, cooking, hot tubbing, and listening to nature. It’s seriously the perfect spot for a big friends trip or family weekend! The second my dad saw it he was asking how to rent it – he wants to go back with the fam!
So there you have it! If you’re into good food, good drinks, and a little R&R, you should absolutely spend a weekend in Fairfield County Ohio. It made for a fun little road trip and girl’s weekend, that’s for sure. I already want to go back!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading. Don’t be a stranger – come back soon!!
