Without any further ado, here are the essential pieces you’re going to need for this spring capsule wardrobe guide to work…

For the basic tees you can choose short sleeve tops, long sleeve tops, or a combination of the two. It just depends on where you live! And if you don’t think you’ll need lightweight sweaters, you can sub those for another top in the same color (for example, an oatmeal long sleeve t shirt instead of an oatmeal sweater).

Plain Black T Shirt

This could be a bodysuit, a fitted t shirt, or an oversized t shirt. I think the latter will get the most use, though, as it can be worn a few ways – tied, tucked, etc.

Basic White Tee

You’ll notice that a lot of the basic pieces I recommend are from Abercrombie. That’s because they are great quality and usually very affordable. Case in point, this long sleeve white t-shirt.

Medium Brown Top

This gorgeous color seems to look good on everyone, and I think it makes for extra stylish outfits. I chose a bodysuit in this color for my spring capsule wardrobe because I thought it would be a great date night option. But you could do another classic staple, like a tank top, if you’re not into that.

Gray and White Striped Shirt

A striped shirt is a classic color is an essential item in your wardrobe, period. They literally never go out of style and can be used all year. While I’d recommend black and white for a winter capsule wardrobe, I think gray and white is perfect for spring!

Oatmeal Sweater

No matter where you live, you need at least one light sweater in your closet. They make for a great layering piece and can be used on cooler days year round. For this piece I chose the color oatmeal because it’s one of those neutral shades that screams spring!

Gray Sweater

In the past I’ve recommended a solid gray sweater for your fall capsule wardrobe, so if you’ve been following along for awhile you probably already have this in your closet. Something with an oversized fit looks effortless and chic no matter how you style it.

White Cardigan

Like a plain white top, a white cardigan feels fresh and is incredibly versatile. It’s an especially great option for those warmer days that start off cold.

Like the tops, you can adjust these suggestions based on your climate. Just make sure the pieces you pick are in the same 3 colors – light blue, white, and medium blue. For instance, if you don’t need jean shorts, you could opt for a pair of jeans in a medium wash. Keeping this color palette will allow you to style all of the pieces in the different ways I’ve provided in the spring capsule wardrobe checklist PDF.

Light Blue Jeans

It doesn’t matter if they’re skinny jeans, straight jeans, or mom jeans. You should always wear what makes you feel good… not what’s “in style”!

PS: Abercrombie, Gap, and Kut from the Kloth are my favorite jean brands. Old Navy jeans are also pretty great, and they are size inclusive.

White Denim Jeans

A good pair of white jeans are an absolute necessity. They make even the most casual outfit look chic and put together.

Medium Blue Denim Shorts

Obviously you’ll be able to use these in your summer wardrobe, too, which is great! Abercrombie is by far my favorite go to store for jean shorts because they have so many styles and fits! Plus, when they go on sale they are such an affordable option.

But if you have the money to spend, I can’t recommend the Agolde Parker Shorts enough. I don’t usually love shorts, but I LOVE these. They are so beyond flattering and comfortable.

If you’ve been following along here for awhile, then you know that I LOVE dresses. They’re just so easy and comfortable. And they make extremely warm weather a little bit more bearable since they’re so breathable.

I know everyone thinks that a floral dress is a spring staple, and I don’t disagree. But first I’d be sure to invest in both of these…

Black T-Shirt Dress

You could do a midi dress, maxi dress, or even something above the knee. But I promise you will wear this on repeat!

Denim Dress

You can easily style a denim dress for different seasons, simply by switching up your shoes and accessories. Personally, I think one with a more classic design – like a denim babydoll dress – has the most longevity. But all of these options are adorable…

For shoes I recommend 4 different styles – sneakers, booties, heeled sandals (or wedges), and flat sandals. You can choose the combination! And, again, feel free to modify for your climate if one of these won’t get much wear.

White Sneakers

I have the exact pair of Sam Edelman Poppy Sneakers below, and they’re actually the best selling items in the history of my blog. Everyone who has purchased them has LOVED them, including myself.

Sadly, the are an older style, so they are getting harder to come by. The other options I have listed, though, are great alternatives.

Tan Booties

A neutral pair of booties can be worn year round, but they are especially helpful on those spring days that don’t quite warrant sandals since they can match pretty much everything.

Cognac Sandals

Cognac gives even the most basic t shirt a pretty pop of color and a more luxe feel. I love the strappy sandals you’ll see across many of my spring outfit ideas because they can be used to create dressier looks. But these all could work, too…

Black Sandals

There are so many cute black sandals out there, but my simple black slides are definitely my most used throughout spring and summer!

If you don’t need a spring jacket because of where you live, lucky you, lol! But if you do, here’s what I’d invest in for your casual spring capsule wardrobe.

White Wrap Jacket

I know most capsule wardrobe enthusiasts recommend getting a trench coat, but I personally think wrap jackets are more chic.

Denim Jacket

If only I had a dollar for every time I’ve recommended a denim jacket, lol. But seriously, I wear mine all year round. Especially in the spring and fall!

I tend to splurge more on accessories because they can really elevate a look. Plus, they arguably get the most wear. Here are some great options for your spring capsule wardrobe.

Necklace Set

Necklace sets are great because you get more bang for your buck! And you can wear them together or separately to shake things up.

I can’t recommend Gorjana jewelry enough. It is SO affordable and the quality is fantastic. I’ve had my Gorjana necklace set for almost two years now and it has yet to tarnish. Trust me when I say it’s been worn on repeat, and it’s gotten wet plenty of times!

Earring Set

Again, earring sets just give you more bang for your buck! Here are a few from Gorjana that I’ve been eyeing up.

If you’re not into dangling earrings, take a look at all the cute stud earrings Gorjana has!

For handbags I recommend 3 colors (cognac, black, and white) and 3 sizes (small, medium, and large). That way you have the perfect one for any occasion.

One black pair and one tortoise print pair will do the trick! I LOVE the options that DIFF Eyewear has as well as Quay Australia. Both are super affordable, high-quality brands.

I hope this free spring capsule wardrobe checklist and guide help you to create looks you love in less time.
