When you use Sunday as a reset day, it allows you to set the stage for a positive and productive week. It’ll help you enter the work week with clarity, purpose, and a renewed sense of energy rather than negative anticipation.

Lucky for you, I’ve created just that – the ultimate Sunday reset routine checklist for busy moms – to help you build a Sunday routine that will allow your entire week to flow a little bit better. Plus, it’ll allow you to actually enjoy your Sunday rather than wasting a whole day anxious about the week ahead.

1. Wake Up Early

Waking up early on Sunday is a great way to ensure you have a peaceful and productive day. It’ll allow you ample time to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, do something you enjoy (like reading a good book), and tackle the tasks discussed below. 

2. Brain Dump

Brain dumping can work wonders for your peace of mind and overall organization. It just gets everything out – useless worries, negative thoughts, lingering tasks from the past week, random to-do list items, and so on.

When you make brain dumping a part of your Sunday morning routine it helps to clear your mind, organize your thoughts, and uncover priority tasks before the start of a new week.

3. Review Your Weekly Schedule

Once you’ve brain dumped, bust out your Google calendar or daily planner and review your upcoming week! Add to-do list items from your brain dumping session to your weekly schedule if they’re not already there. 

Mapping out the rest of the week will help you to mentally prepare. It’ll also help you recognize when and where you might need some help so you can plan accordingly!

4. Put on a Load of Laundry

Have you ever woken up on Monday only to realize you don’t have many (if any) clean clothes? It’s an awful feeling, isn’t it? There’s nothing worse than starting the week feeling frazzled!

That’s why I recommend throwing on at least one load of laundry on Sunday. If you can’t get to it all, this will at least ensure you have something to wear the next day. And it’ll buy you a day or two to get more done.

5. Meal Plan

Creating a weekly meal plan allows you to be strategic with your grocery list and streamlines the grocery shopping process. It allows you to buy in bulk when possible and reduces food waste because you only buy what you actually need. At the end of the day, it can save you a ton of time, money, energy, and stress. And it really only takes a few minutes!

When meal planning, write out everything your family will eat for each day of the week ahead – breakfast lunch and dinner. Make note of meals you’ll be eating elsewhere, be it a restaurant or family member’s house, so you can plan accordingly. Getting granular here will help with the next two steps.

6. Make a Grocery List

Once you know what your family is going to eat next week, it’s time to put together a grocery list. 

Read through the recipes for your planned meals and jot down all of the ingredients.

Next, go through your refrigerator and cabinets and scratch off the items you already have in hand so you don’t buy duplicates. There’s no use in spending money on things you already own, especially if they could go bad quickly!

7. Go Grocery Shopping

With a busy schedule, there’s just not a lot of time to run errands during the work week. That’s why I like getting mine done over the weekend, grocery shopping included. It allows me to use the little free time I do have during the working week on more important things – enjoying a family dinner, quality time, etc. 

Pro Tip: Go grocery shopping on Sunday morning or Sunday evening. The stores are basically dead, and it’s actually quite relaxing in my opinion! Avoid going to the grocery store on Sunday afternoon at all costs, haha. That’s when it’s a zoo.

8. Tidy Up

I’m not going to tell you to do all of your different household chores on Sunday, too. That’d be a lot for one day! However, I do recommend walking around your entire house on Sunday night and doing a quick tidy.

As part of this Sunday evening routine, put things back in their proper place and spot clean as needed to achieve a tidy space. I promise, when you wake up on Monday morning to a clean home it will bring you so much calm, peace, and joy!

9. Change Your Sheets and Bath Towels

Sunday is a great time to swap out those dirty sheets and bath towels for fresh ones. This is a great weekly practice for maintaining good hygiene, but clean sheets actually helps promote better quality sleep, too.

10. Indulge in Some Self Care

Self care is critical to your physical and mental health, and the best way to make sure you get it in is to add it to your weekly to-do list.

I think Sunday is the perfect day for a little self care because it allows you to reflect, recharge, and prepare for a positive and productive week.

That said, I highly recommend that you reserve a block of time to do something for you every Sunday – take a long bath, throw on a hair mask or face mask, meditate – whatever regulates your stress levels and brings you a sense of calm.

I promise, this personal time will be something you look forward to every single week!
